Document Set -up Guidelines
- If your graphic contains photos, set up as a raster file
in Photoshop format. Do any manipulation of the file using layers
and, if possible, send the layered file.
- If your graphic also contains logos, copy or line-art, set up your
document as a vector or page-layout file using Illustrator, Freehand
or Quark.
- Always link (never embed) raster elements in your Vector
file and be sure to include all linked files.
- Always furnish desired PMS number to specify vector file colors. We
will make necessary color adjustments to print as close as possible.
- Set-up Raster files in CMYK but do not convert files
originated in a different color space.
- Set up large multi-panel graphics on one page, not separate pages
- Include 'bleed' on all sides of the image whenever possible. Bleed is
extra image (1/2" at final size is OK) outside the crops to allow for
alignment and a clean trimmed edge.
- Set-up the file at a minimum resolution of 100dpi at 100% size
(150 dpi is better).
- Set-up the document proportional to final output size, in at least 25%
of full scale (remember, when scaling, resolution must increase!)
- Always include screen and printer fonts with every file
- Always include a Color Proof (8.5" x 11" is fine)
Final Steps:
- ALWAYS include screen and printer fonts.
- ALWAYS include a color printed copy of the final document;
note on the proof all required PMS colors and other
important specs.
- ALWAYS open files after you have copied to your transport
media to make sure they have not become corrupted.
- ALWAYS include a printed directory of your files with
supporting / placed files highlighted.
- When possible, avoid sending unneeded files.
